Daylilies

I started planting more and more daylilies a few years back, until finally I decided that they needed a garden of their own.  I plowed up a 2500 sq ft, kind of L-shaped garden and quickly filled it. As the deer and raccoons convinced me that it was a losing battle to plant sweet corn- they do not share well- I ended up planting much of the former space I used for corn to daylilies as well, adding at least another 2500 sq feet.  I rarely have critter trouble with daylilies, although this past winter the voles tunneled all around.  It is always fun to add a few new ones, pretty much sight unseen, since I buy them at the daylily sale in the fall, and then wait to see what I really planted.

One of the nicest daylily gardens/nurseries to visit is Olallie's in South Newfane,VT.  Leave your wallet at home (wicked expensive) and go enjoy the incredible display of thousands of varieties of daylily.

When you are ready to buy daylilies- go to the Hudson Valley Daylily Society Sale (August 15th – Annual sale at Faddegon’s Nursery in Latham, NY). It's worth the trip in savings.
