I have been gardening in the hilltowns of western Massachusetts since the '70s. A UMass Plant and Soil Science graduate, horticulture has always been a big part of life, from working summers at UMass horticulture research farms in South Deerfield to the research center and orchards in Belchertown and finally back home in the hills-plants and gardens are an integral part of life from early spring to late fall.
